Rorshak Presents: 'The Walter Kovax EP'

July 1, 2009

Unearthly horror abounds in this long-awaited, much anticipated project from adventuresome lyricist and Deaf Judges MC Rorshak. Originally conceived as a side-project collaboration with the warp-o noise masters of disaster known as Slasher Film Festival Strategy, much of the Walter Kovax material was recorded several years ago during the particularly cold and desolate winter of 2005. As time went on, the Slasher tracks failed to coalesce into a finished project, and the recordings were eventually abandoned, some of the material making it's way onto the 'Ghost Of Frankenstein Rhyme' release of 2006. Thereafter, Rorshak became busy performing and recording with the group Deaf Judges and the remaining songs from Walter Kovax were consigned to limbo for a few more years. However, like a vengeful spirit from beyond the grave, the old tracks refused to rest and demanded to exact their wrathful toll upon the world at large. Enlisting the aid of long-time collaborator I'MO as well as Cubenza and the other Deaf Judges, Rorshak attempted to piece together the remains of this offbeat material into a presentable form. What has come out of it, Rorshak hopes, will be recognized as a tribute to the old "horrorcore" hip hop albums of the mid-nineties that inspired him. Dr. Octagon, Gravediggaz and later on Warcloud were all mentioned as heavy influences that can be heard in the gruesome, blood-stained tracks of 'The Walter Kovax EP'.

Deaf Judges Voted "Best Hip Hop" In Flagpole Awards

June 27, 2009

For the third year in a row Deaf Judges were honored in the Flagpole Athens Music Awards, receiving the award for "Best Hip Hop/ Rap". The award was determined by popular vote and was given out during a classy ceremony, held annually as part of the Athfest music and arts festival in downtown Athens, Georgia. Deaf Judges performed at the ceremony as well, held at the historic Morton Theater, and returned the following night for another performance at that same venue, which they were subsequently banned from for being just too damn hype. The Judges had originally been scheduled to perform at the Georgia Theatre, another historic downtown Athens venue, for their Athfest gig. Unfortunately, the Georgia Theatre burned down in the early hours of June 19th, a tragic loss to the music community of Athens. Deaf Judges enjoyed some memorable performances at the Theatre, including a couple of their most high-profile gigs, opening for both Ghostface Killah and RJD2, respectively. Both Deaf Judges and everyone at EC Ruins would like to offer condolences to the staff and management of the Georgia Theatre and our best wishes and support in moving forward from this devastating incident.

Sky High Super Adventures

April 28, 2009

The Tuskegee Airmen are back with a new release featuring more of their high-flying weirdness. 'Sky High Super Adventures' combines the noise, experimental recordings and all out abandonment of musical form that the Airmen are known for, perhaps pushing the envelope even further than on their previous releases. Intriguing new sounds and unexpected collages of "found" recordings, psychedelic jam sessions and atmospheric hullabaloo are the result of following the uncharted flight paths The Tuskegee Airmen pursue. This 13 track, self-described "air show for the ears" comes packaged in limited edition handmade covers that include a 14 page booklet of artwork. If you are into sounds that just don't sound like anything else, you might be ready for 'Sky High Super Adventures'.

Is It Real? (The Secret Songs)

February 22, 2009

Wireless Bibles is the recording project of Ian Morris (Y/Our Sparkle Heart / Democracy Vs. Empire) that we first heard from on the very first EC Ruins compilation several years ago with the song 'Is It Real?'. That song was recorded at the time as a sort of one-off, during a period of loss and upheaval. Over the course of the following years, personal tragedy would continue to play a part in Ian's life and the theme of loss and heartbreak became the inspiration for a number of recordings. Despite the gloomy circumstances surrounding this work, the songs that came out of these sessions managed to take on a celebratory pop aesthetic with a feeling of triumph and exaltation behind the sometimes starkly emotional subject matter. For a long time, most of these recordings were kept unreleased. Whether because of the lo-fi, home recorded nature of the project (Morris has been known as somewhat of a perfectionist at times), or due to emotional heaviness, the songs went unheard except by the few musicians playing with Ian on the recordings. Circumstances have conspired to keep these songs held secret for some several years, but now this beautiful project is ready to be shared with all. We are happy to finally present the complete collection of Wireless Bibles songs, 20 tracks including collaborations with Chris Vanderford (Nice Machine), Charles McAbee (Model Of Sound) and a cast of thousands!
